What is Zurampic?

Zurampic is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by AstraZeneca. It is a URAT1 inhibitor used with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor (XOI) to treat hyperuricemia associated with gout in people who have not obtained target serum uric acid levels with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor alone. Zurampic is not recommended for the treatment of asymptomatic hyperuricemia, and should not be used as monotherapy.

What doses of Zurampic are available?

Zurampic is available in tablet form, in the following doses: 200 mg.

The recommended dose is 200 mg tablets once daily, in the morning with food and water. in combination with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, including allopurinol or febuxostat. The maximum daily dose of Zurampic is 200 mg.

Zurampic active ingredients

Zurampic contains lesinurad as the active ingredient.

Zurampic side effects

The most common side effects of lesinurad in clinical trials compared to placebo include:

  • Headache
  • Influenza
  • Increased blood creatinine
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn)

In rare instances, Zurampic can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Gout Flares
  • Kidney failure – monitor renal function at initiation and during therapy
  • Cardiovascular events

Zurampic drug interactions

Zurampic can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Moderate Cytochrome P450 (CYP2C9) inhibitors
  • Sensitive CYP3A Substrates
  • Birth control pills – Ask your doctor about using non-hormonal birth control to prevent pregnancy
  • Other forms of hormonal contraception

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Zurampic. Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Zurampic contraindications

You should not use Zurampic if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient lesinurad
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Zurampic
  • Have severely impaired kidney function, end-stage renal disease, are a kidney transplant recipient, on dialysis, or have any other kidney problems
  • Have hepatic impairment
  • Have Tumor lysis syndrome or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome

Talk to your doctor before using Zurampic if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Zurampic
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Zurampic generic

Zurampic is the trademark brand name for lesinurad manufactured by AstraZeneca. A generic version of lesinurad is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Zurampic savings through NiceRx.
