What is Tnkase?

TNKase is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Genentech, Inc. TNKase is a bioengineered variant of Activase (Alteplase, recombinant), which is a recombinant DNA-derived version of naturally occurring tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). TNKase is a thrombolytic drug. TNKase is used to prevent death in people who have had a heart attack (acute myocardial infarction).

What doses of Tnkase are available?

Tnkase is available in injection form, in the following doses: Each vial contains 52.5 mg and will deliver 50 mg of Tenecteplase.

TNKase is the most fibrin-specific molecule and can be delivered as a single bolus intravenous injection. It is given as an infusion directly into a vein. A healthcare provider will give you this injection.

The active ingredient of Tnkase is tenecteplase.

Tnkase side effects

The most common side effects of Tnkase in clinical trials include:

  • Swelling, rapid weight gain
  • Little or no urinating
  • Slow heart rate
  • Shortness of breath, feeling faint
  • Sudden severe back pain
  • Muscle weakness, numb feeling in your arms or legs
  • increased blood pressure
  • Pancreatitis

In rare instances, Tnkase can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Coronary thrombolysis may result in arrhythmias associated with reperfusion
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Dark stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • Sudden numbness or weakness (especially down one side of the body, sudden severe headache, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance
  • Cholesterol embolism
  • Increased risk of thromboembolic events in patients with a high likelihood of left heart thrombus, such as patients with mitral stenosis or atrial fibrillation

Tnkase drug interactions

Tnkase can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Heparin, vitamin K antagonists, aspirin, dipyridamole, GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors
  • Interference with coagulation tests

Tnkase contraindications

You should not use Tnkase if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient tenecteplase
  • Have hypersensitivity to any of the other ingredients in Tnkase
  • Have active internal bleeding
  • Have severe uncontrolled hypertension
  • Have a genetic disorder affecting the blood vessels in your brain
  • Have intracranial neoplasm, arteriovenous malformation, or aneurysm
  • Have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
  • Have a history of cerebrovascular accident
  • Have had brain or spinal cord injury or surgery within the past 2 months
  • Have known bleeding diathesis

Talk to your doctor before using Tnkase if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Tnkase
  • Have had a stroke
  • Have high blood pressure, heart problems, bacterial endocarditis
  • Have a serious injury or have had recent major surgery
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed
  • Have cerebrovascular disease
  • Have recent gastrointestinal or genitourinary bleeding
  • Have acute pericarditis
  • Have hemostatic defects, including those secondary to severe hepatic or renal disease
  • Have severe hepatic dysfunction
  • Have diabetic hemorrhagic retinopathy or other hemorrhagic ophthalmic conditions
  • Have septic thrombophlebitis or occluded AV cannula at a seriously infected site
  • Are of advanced age
  • Are receiving oral anticoagulants – warfarin sodium
  • Have any other conditions in which bleeding would be a hazard or would be particularly difficult to manage because of its location

Tnkase generic

Tnkase is the trademark brand name for tenecteplase manufactured by Genentech, Inc. A generic version of tenecteplase is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Tnkase savings through NiceRx.
