What is Sivextro?

Sivextro is an antibiotic that can be given to adults and children aged 12 and over. It is used to treat bacterial infections on and in the skin, and infections in the tissue beneath the skin. These are termed skin and skin structure infections (SSSIs).

If you have a bacterial skin or skin structure infection, your doctor may have prescribed Sivextro to you. It is an antibiotic that can stop the spread of bacterial infections through your skin. You take Sivextro either as a tablet you swallow or as a solution that’s injected into one of your veins (intravenous injection).

Sivextro active ingredients

The active ingredient in Sivextro is called tedizolid, an antibiotic that can stop the growth of certain types of bacteria in your skin.

When you take Sivextro, the tedizolid it contains is absorbed by the bacteria causing your infection. Once inside the bacteria, tedizolid blocks a step in the process the bacteria use to build the proteins they need to stay alive and to multiply. This makes it harder for the bacteria to live inside your body and to spread, allowing your immune system to clear the infection.
