Your monthly Reyataz cost savings if eligible

If you are eligible for the Reyataz patient assistance program you can receive your medication for free. Our monthly service fee of $49 per medication covers the cost of our services in applying for the program and requesting your ongoing refills on your behalf. If you obtain your Reyataz through NiceRx, you will only pay $49 a month regardless of the retail price of your medication.

Am I eligible for the Reyataz patient assistance program?

You could receive your Reyataz without paying the full retail price if you meet the eligibility criteria for assistance. The eligibility requirements are set by the pharmaceutical companies that are providing assistance programs. At NiceRx, we review each application individually, although the main factors considered by most programs are:

  • I am a permanent, legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico
  • I am uninsured or my insurance doesn’t cover my medication
  • I meet certain income eligibility requirements

How do I apply for Reyataz patient assistance?

We do everything that we can to take the hassle and stress out of applying for patient assistance programs. Simply start by filling in our enrollment application. We will ask for details about your healthcare provider, your insurance, and your household income. This information is required by the pharmaceutical companies you are applying to for assistance. We may also be able to help you access patient assistance for other medications that you have been prescribed, so be sure to tell us about any medications you are taking as well as Reyataz.

NiceRx will review the information you have provided, and if we determine that you may be eligible for assistance, we will seek to enroll you in the Reyataz patient assistance program. We will handle the enrollment process for you by working with your healthcare provider and preparing all the required paperwork for your doctor to sign. We will also request your Reyataz medication refills on your behalf for up to 1 year once you are enrolled in the program.

What is Reyataz?

Reyataz is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Reyataz is a protease inhibitor indicated for use in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV infection (human immunodeficiency virus). Reyataz helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better.

What doses of Reyataz are available?

Reyataz is available in capsule form, in the following doses: 100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg, 300 mg.

Reyataz active ingredients

The active ingredient in Reyataz capsules and oral powder is atazanavir sulfate, which is an HIV-1 protease inhibitor.

Reyataz side effects

The most common side effects of Reyataz in clinical trials include:

  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Headache, fever
  • Insomnia
  • Peripheral neurologic symptoms
  • Dizziness
  • Myalgia
  • Diarrhea
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Liver problems (such as nausea/vomiting that doesn’t stop, loss of appetite, stomach/abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)

In rare instances, Reyataz can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Increased levels of cholesterol and fats (triglycerides) in your blood
  • Cardiac conduction abnormalities
  • Rash
  • Hyperbilirubinemia – increases in indirect bilirubin
  • Hepatotoxicity – patients with hepatitis B or C infection are at risk of increased transaminases or hepatic decompensation
  • Nephrolithiasis
  • New onset or worsening of diabetes mellitus/hyperglycemia, immune reconstitution syndrome, and redistribution/accumulation of body fat
  • Hemophilia

Reyataz drug interactions

Reyataz can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Treatments for chronic hepatitis C – elbasvir, grazoprevir, glecaprevir, pibrentasvir
  • Combinations of HIV medication (elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir), indinavir, nevirapine, orlistat, saquinavir
  • Certain rifamycins – rifampin, rifapentine
  • Certain drugs used to treat seizures – carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone
  • St. John’s wort
  • Alpha blockers – alfuzosin, silodosin
  • Benzodiazepines – midazolam, triazolam
  • Ergot alkaloids – dihydroergotamine, ergotamine
  • Irinotecan, lomitapide, pimozide
  • Treatments for erectile dysfunction-ED or pulmonary hypertension – sildenafil
  • Statins – lovastatin, simvastatin
  • Salmeterol
  • Drugs to treat heartburn, indigestion – famotidine
  • Proton pump inhibitors – lansoprazole, omeprazole

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Reyataz. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, herbal products, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take.

Reyataz contraindications

You should not use Reyataz if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient atazanavir
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Reyataz
  • Are taking quetiapine, lurasidone, alfuzosin, astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, bepridil, triazolam, midazolam, lomitapide, and ergot alkaloids, particularly, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, methylergonovine
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant – Hormonal forms of birth control, such as injections, vaginal rings or implants, contraceptive patches, and some birth control pills, may not work when you are taking Reyataz
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed – This medication passes into breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breastfeed

Talk to your doctor about your medical condition before using Reyataz if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Reyataz
  • Have liver disease (especially hepatitis B or C)
  • Have kidney disease
  • Have kidney stones or gallstones
  • Have diabetes
  • Have a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia
  • Have heart problems

Reyataz is the trademark brand name for atazanavir manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). A generic version of atazanavir is available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Reyataz savings through NiceRx.
