What Is Remicade Prescribed For?

Remicade is prescribed to patients with a variety of autoimmune diseases such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis, and more.

Remicade is a medication that reduces the inflammatory process of the body in certain disease states. By reducing inflammation, Remicade helps the patient feel better and limits the symptoms of the disease.

Active Ingredient

The active ingredient in Remicade is infliximab, an immunotherapy agent which reduces the body’s inflammatory response to certain autoimmune diseases.

Conditions Treated by Remicade

Crohn’s Disease & Pediatric Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s disease causes inflammation throughout the digestive tract. It can cause significant damage to the affected tissues, manifesting in symptoms like stomach pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, and malnutrition. There is no cure for Crohn’s disease, though patients can enjoy a good quality of life with the right treatment.

Ulcerative Colitis & Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis causes long-lasting inflammation of the lining of the colon and rectum. In some patients, the disease also results in ulcers or more serious complications. While there is no cure, treatment can significantly alleviate symptoms.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body’s tissues, causing chronic inflammation of the joints. In some patients, skin, eyes, lungs, heart, and blood vessels may also sustain damage. Patients may experience joint pain, weakness, or stiffness, and overall fatigue or malaise.

Psoriatic Arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis occurs in people who already have psoriasis. If left untreated, this chronic inflammatory disease may be disabling. Like arthritis, psoriasis is a sign of an overactive immune system. Psoriatic arthritis manifests in symptoms like swollen fingers and toes, foot pain, and lower back pain.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that affects the vertebrae of the spine, causing chronic discomfort and severe chronic pain. The shoulders, hips, ribs, heels, and small joints of the hands and feet can also be affected. In some patients, this inflammatory disease causes eye problems known as uveitis.

Plaque Psoriasis

Chronic plaque psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder which manifests as skin inflammation. Patients usually develop itchy round lesions that are bright red or pink. These lesions are also elevated and have an overlying white/silvery scale-like texture.

*Qualifying persons may obtain medications directly from patient assistance programs without any out-of-pocket cost (or for less than $49 per medication). However, our monthly flat rate of just $49 per medication spares you the hassle of tracking down the different programs and filling out all the required paperwork for each program.

Enrollees enjoy a full-service solution, as Prescription Care assists them and their physicians with the entire process. We prepare all required documents for the physician to sign, help enrollees manage all prescription refills, monitor eligibility criteria, and maintain enrollment.

**If you do not receive medications because you were determined to be ineligible for the prescription assistance by the applicable pharmaceutical companies and you have a letter of denial, we will refund any fees you paid toward medications for which you did not qualify to receive prescription assistance (Refund).

To receive a Refund, you must send the letter of denial to us by fax to 866-262-2603, or by e-mail to [email protected] within 30 days of your receipt of such letter. The Refund is your sole and exclusive remedy for any fees you may wish to dispute.
