What is Provera?

Provera is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Pfizer. It is a type of progesterone used in women who are not pregnant and not going through menopause, for the treatment of absent (amenorrhea) or irregular menstrual periods, or abnormal uterine bleeding. Provera is also used to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia (a condition that may lead to uterine cancer) while taking estrogens.

Provera is not recommended for the prevention of heart disease, stroke, or dementia. Provera may increase your risk of developing these conditions. Also, long-term use of medroxyprogesterone may increase your risk of breast cancer or cancer of the uterus, or ovaries.

What doses of Provera are available?

Provera is available in tablet form, in the following doses: 2.5 mg.

Always speak with a healthcare professional for medical advice about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
