  • Submit documents

We will request documents to be submitted by you and your healthcare provider that are required by the pharmaceutical company to complete your enrollment.

What is Neupogen?

Neupogen is a prescription medication that increases the number of neutrophil cells you have in your blood. These cells are a type of white blood cell produced by your immune system to help protect you from infections and some cancers.

Neupogen is prescribed to increase neutrophil levels in people who have a condition called neutropenia, caused by not having enough neutrophil cells in the blood. Your doctor may prescribe Neupogen to you if you have neutropenia caused by:

  • Chemotherapy or radiotherapy taken to treat cancer
  • A disorder that causes congenital neutropenia or cyclic neutropenia, such as Kostmann syndrome

Neupogen treats neutropenia by stimulating your bone marrow to produce more neutrophil white blood cells, increasing the levels of neutrophil in your blood.

The medication can be taken at home as an injection given under the skin (subcutaneous injection) using a pre-filled syringe, done by yourself or by a caregiver. Alternatively, it can be given in a clinical setting as an intravenous injection (IV injection) by a healthcare provider. How often you will need injections and how many you will need will be decided upon by your doctor based on your condition and medical history.

Neupogen active ingredients

The active ingredient in Neupogen is called filgrastim. Filgrastim is a granulocyte colony stimulating factor medicine that increases the number of neutrophil white blood cells your body produces.

When you take Neupogen, the filgrastim it contains is absorbed into your bone marrow where it triggers the processes that cause your bone marrow to produce neutrophil white blood cells.
