What is Letairis?

Letairis is prescribed to adults to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), high blood pressure in the vessels inside your lungs.

PAH can interfere with how much oxygen you absorb into your blood. With PAH, the vessels and arteries in your lungs can narrow, become blocked, and damaged. This increases your blood pressure in your lungs and reduces how much oxygen you can take into your blood. When you have PAH, it can make you feel short of breath, cause chest pain, fatigue, heart palpitations, and fainting. It can also make it harder for you to exercise.

Letairis helps to relax the muscle tissue in the arteries and blood vessels inside your lungs. This can improve blood flow and reduce blood pressure, providing relief from your PAH symptoms. Letairis can slow down the worsening of your PAH, and it can improve your ability to exercise.

Letairis active ingredients

The active ingredient in Letairis is called ambrisentan. It opens up the arteries and vessels in your lungs to help reduce blood pressure and improve blood flow. Muscle tissue in your arteries and blood vessels can constrict and tighten, reducing the flow of blood and increasing blood pressure. This happens when your body releases a substance called endothelin. Endothelin attaches to areas on the surface of the muscle called endothelin receptors. This stimulates the receptors and causes the muscle to constrict.

Ambrisentan works by stopping this from happening. When you take Letairis, the ambrisentan molecules it contains attach to these endothelin receptors, blocking them. This means endothelin can’t bind with and stimulate the receptors. This stops your blood vessels from becoming constricted, improving blood flow.
