What is Jublia?

Jublia is a prescription medicine used to treat fungal toenail infections in adults and children aged six years and over. If you have a fungal nail infection, your doctor may prescribe Jublia to you. It’s a topical antifungal medication that you apply directly to affected toenails using the brush bottle it comes in. You usually apply Jublia once a day for 48 weeks. It helps by stopping the fungus from growing and spreading so your body can clear the infection.

Jublia active ingredients

The active ingredient in Jublia is called efinaconazole. It’s an anti-fungal medicine that works by blocking an enzyme that the fungus uses to convert its food into energy. This makes it harder for the fungus to grow and spread and makes it easier for your body to clear the infection.

Jublia side effects & Jublia drug interactions

The most common side effects caused by Jublia are reactions on and around the toenails where you apply the medication, including:

  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Stinging
  • Burning
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Blisters
  • Ingrown toenails

Jublia isn’t thought to react with other medications. It is still important to tell your prescribing physician about all drugs you’re taking, including vitamins, and herbal and dietary supplements.

Jublia warnings & precautions

Jublia is for external use only. It should be applied to your affected toenails and to the skin around your affected toenails only. Do not put Jublia in any of your orifices, like your mouth, eyes, or vagina.

Jublia is flammable, so always avoid heat and flames when you apply it to your toenails. The medication also isn’t suitable for everyone and shouldn’t be given to children under six years of age. Don’t take Jublia if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient efinaconazole
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Jublia (you can find these listed in the leaflet which comes with the medication)

Talk to your doctor before taking Jublia if you:

  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed
