If you are eligible for the Idhifa patient assistance program you can receive your medication for free. Our monthly service fee of $49 per medication covers the cost of our services in applying for the program and requesting your ongoing refills on your behalf. If you obtain your Idhifa through NiceRx, you will only pay $49 a month regardless of the retail price of your medication.

Am I eligible for the Idhifa patient assistance program?

You could receive your Idhifa without paying the full retail price if you meet the eligibility criteria for assistance. The eligibility requirements are set by the pharmaceutical companies that are providing assistance programs. At NiceRx, we review each application individually, although the main factors considered by most programs are:

How do I apply for Idhifa patient assistance?

We do everything that we can to take the hassle and stress out of applying for patient assistance programs. Simply start by filling in our enrollment application. We will ask for details about your healthcare provider, your insurance, and your household income. This information is required by the pharmaceutical companies you are applying to for assistance. We may also be able to help you access patient assistance for other medications that you have been prescribed, so be sure to tell us about any medications you are taking as well as Idhifa.

NiceRx will review the information you have provided, and if we determine that you may be eligible for assistance, we will seek to enroll you in the Idhifa patient assistance program. We will handle the enrollment process for you by working with your healthcare provider and preparing all the required paperwork for your doctor to sign. We will also request your Idhifa medication refills on your behalf for up to 1 year once you are enrolled in the program.

What is Idhifa?

Idhifa is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Celgene Corporation, a Bristol‑Myers Squibb Company. It is an isocitrate dehydrogenase-2 enzyme inhibitor indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed AML or refractory AML (refractory acute myeloid leukemia) with an isocitrate dehydrogenase-2, IDH2 mutation in the blood or bone marrow.

Leukemias are a group of different blood cancers of the bone marrow. They cause large numbers of abnormal blood cells to enter your bloodstream. The use of Idhifa is associated with a complete remission in some patients and a reduction in the need for both red cell and platelet transfusions.

Warning – Differentiation syndrome. See the full prescribing information for a complete boxed warning. Patients treated with Idhifa have experienced symptoms of differentiation syndrome, which can be fatal if not treated. If differentiation syndrome is suspected, initiate corticosteroid therapy and hemodynamic monitoring until symptom resolution.

What doses of Idhifa are available?

Idhifa is available in tablet form, in the following doses: 50 mg, 100 mg.

Do not crush, chew, or break a tablet. Swallow the tablet whole. Idhifa should be taken until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. If a dose is vomited, missed, or not taken at the usual time. Take the missed dose as soon as possible on the same day and return to the normal schedule the following day.

Assess blood counts and blood chemistries for leukocytosis and TLS (Tumor lysis syndrome) prior to treatment and monitor at a minimum of every 2 weeks for at least the first 3 months during treatment.

Store Idhifa tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Always speak with a healthcare professional about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.

Idhifa active ingredients

Idhifa contains enasidenib as the active ingredient.

Idhifa side effects

The most common side effects of Idhifa in clinical trials include:

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Elevated bilirubin
  • Calcium decreased, potassium decreased, phosphorus decreased
  • Decreased appetite
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

In rare instances, Idhifa can cause more serious adverse reactions. These can include:

  • Differentiation syndrome – fever, cough, trouble breathing, bone pain, rapid weight gain, swelling in your arms, legs, underarms, groin, or neck
  • Severe or ongoing vomiting or diarrhea
  • Leukocytosis
  • Tumor lysis syndrome – a condition that occurs when cancer cells release their contents into your body

Your doctor will assess the benefits of using Idhifa against your risk of side effects. Patients are encouraged to report negative side effects or adverse reactions of Idhifa to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088.

Idhifa drug interactions

Idhifa can interact with other medications. These include:

  • OATP1B1, OATP1B3, And BCRP Substrates
  • Certain P-glycoprotein (P-GP) Substrates

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Idhifa. …about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Idhifa contraindications

You should not use Idhifa if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient enasidenib
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Idhifa
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant – Embryo-fetal toxicity. Idhifa can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. You may need to have a negative pregnancy test before starting this treatment. Use effective birth control (contraception) during treatment and for at least 2 months after your last dose
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Talk to your doctor before using Idhifa if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Idhifa

Idhifa is the trademark brand name for enasidenib manufactured by Celgene Corporation,  a Bristol‑Myers Squibb Company. A generic version of enasidenib is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Idhifa savings through NiceRx.
