What is Fuzeon?

Fuzeon contains the prescription medicine enfuvirtide, which is classed as an antiviral medicine. Fuzeon is used in combination with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) when other treatments have not been completely effective in treating the virus. HIV is the virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Fuzeon is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.

Fuzeon active ingredients

Enfuvirtide blocks the entry of the HIV virus into cells by blocking the virus and cell membranes from sticking together. Enfuvirtide does this by binding to specific points in the virus itself preventing it from being able to join with normal healthy cell membranes.

Use Fuzeon as prescribed by your doctor. Fuzeon must be given in combination with other antiviral medications and should not be used alone. Fuzeon is injected under the skin. A healthcare professional may teach you how to use the medication yourself. Fuzeon must be mixed with a liquid before using it. Prepare your injection only when you are ready to use it. Use a different place on your body each time you use an injection. Do not use the same place two times in a row. Make sure you use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Missing doses can increase the chance of your virus becoming resistant to this medication.
