What is Cytotec?

Cytotec is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Searle. Cytotec reduces acid secretion in the stomach helping to prevent stomach ulcers and protect the stomach from damage caused by taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and meloxicam. Cytotec is not recommended to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcers in patients taking NSAIDs.

Cytotec is also used in combination with mifepristone as part of an abortion pill to end a pregnancy.

Cytotec contraindications

You should not use Cytotec if you:

• Have inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, or other intestinal problems

Cytotec is the trademark brand name for misoprostol manufactured by Searle a division of Pfizer. A generic version of misoprostol is available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Cytotec savings through NiceRx.
